Here is a few shots of the "probable" Baltic Gull at Lackford Lakes SWT myself and Colin Green saw this afternoon after twitching the Short-toed Treecreeper at  Landguard Bird Observatory , next to Felixstowe Docks. Taking a number of record shots of the bird, this is a very interesting bird in Gull terms and if you have the chance? Here is a quick update on the City Challenge. I added a couple more ticks last week in the form of Kingfisher and Chiffchaff with both seen at Watermead CP South. With these sightings my total is now 77 species. On Saturday I nipped over to a new Landfill site in the company of Steve James just over the border into Lincolnshire at Stainby. Although it wasn't on par with Albert Village and Shawell, good numbers of gulls were noted in the nearby fields. Also what was good about this site was the number of Red Kites recorded here, we had at least 10 birds circling and feeding at the tip during the two hours we were there! Getting back to the gulls, one interesting Lesser black-backed Gull was observed in the flock just because it had pink-coloured legs!! I'm not saying it's something special but a reminder that Gulls can be so different! Any way after visiting this site we checked out a few sites in the Vale of Belvoir and made a mental note to visit these sites in the ne...

Before work yesterday I drove over to Albert Village Lake to see if the Juvenile Iceland Gull was about? Once again only a small number of gulls were on the lake, so I decided to check out the tip nearby. Scanning the tip it wasn't long before I found the Juvenile/1st winter Iceland Gull loafing on the tip face. As usual I took a few record shots of the bird. With the time against me due to work commitments I didn't really have time to check the other gulls. Over this weekend I will be checking a new landfill site just over the border into Lincolnshire with Steve James, so I will let you know what we see?   Juvenile Iceland Gull Albert Village tip

Nipping over to Watermead CP South in the afternoon after my early shift had finished, I was hoping to see the "probable" Nordic Jackdaw again in the car park. But scanning the lake briefly for any unusual gull I noticed straight away 3 Red-crested Pochards loafing on the lake! Oh year tick for the city list!! GET IN!?! With this sighting my year list has now reached 75 species so far for the year. Getting back to looking for the Jackdaw I saw the bird again, briefly next to the car park and then in the nearby fields by the former golf range (now an Indian Restaurant!!). I took a few more record shots of the bird but need to do a bit more research on the bird, before claiming it to be a proper "Nordic Jackdaw" . Red-crested Pochards at Watermead CP South

Whilst photographing the usual gulls at Watermead CP South I took a number of photos of this interesting looking Jackdaw by the car park. I might be wrong but it does look like a Scandinavian Jackdaw (Corvus monedula) to me!

Hi all, I took these photos a few days at Watermead CP South, and had a nagging doubt about them ever since? I feel the bird is probably a 1st winter Yellow-legged Gull , but I just wonder what other people think of the gull? I look forward to your comments? PS click on the photos to see a larger image! PPS Thanks to Steve James for pointing this out but the Cormorant next to the probable Yellow-legged Gull is a ringed bird. So it might be "Jocky" the Cormorant ringed from Aberdeenshire, Scotland which has been present at this site for the last three years!!
